We're glad you came to visit and hope that the information provided to you is helpful and informative. Our intent is that this site be used as a tool to better communicate with our citizens. We welcome your input and suggestions about how we might best accomplish that goal. We want to know what's important to you and we want your feedback on that which we offer on this site.
The Galveston Police Department is in the midst of great change. There is considerable interest in community-oriented policing and we have spent a great deal of time in preparation to offer the services consistent with that model of policing and in ways that are unique to our city. We recognize that those things that worked well for us in the past will not work well for us in the future and our officers and employees have embraced the notion that we must change to provide those services expected of us. Community-oriented policing is not a program or a short term project or initiative. Community-oriented policing is a philosophy that is far greater than any single program, project, or initiative. It is a philosophy of service and a partnership with the community that, when embraced by the police department and the members of the community, works well and, most importantly, reduces crime. We have defined community-oriented policing as it relates to us in our community elsewhere in this web site.
Early efforts by our officers and employees have met with great success. We've received accolades for our work from throughout the city and we couldn't be more pleased with that. Our recent open house an formal "kick-off" for our community-oriented policing initiative, Camstat, was a huge success, well attended, and a great benefit for our citizens and customers alike. The weather was bad but that obviously didn't deter those who attended. Employees staffed booths and displays, conducted tours, and visited with citizens for the better part of the day. Our employees took as much from that experience as our citizens did and we're determined to make it an annual event.
Our officers are reaching out to every part of our city in new and different ways to ensure that we build that partnership necessary for effective and efficient delivery of police services. Feel free to contact us for additional information about how you might become an active part in this new and exciting chapter of the history of our police department. Thank you for visiting our web site. It's a work in progress. Save our web address among your favorites and visit us often. You'll be glad you did.
